About Anja

Hi, I’m Anja Carlson, a WordPress consultant, designer, and front-end developer.
Based in Fort Myers, Florida, I design websites with real people in mind. By paying attention to how visitors navigate a site—and where they naturally pause, hesitate, or engage—I help shape experiences that feel intuitive, purposeful, and easy to move through.
A big part of my work is being mindful of how people actually read on the web. Poor typography, dense layouts, and unclear structure create cognitive fatigue and cause users to disengage quickly. I focus on clarity, hierarchy, spacing, and flow so information is easier to process and visitors don’t feel overwhelmed or lost as they move from page to page.
I also think beyond individual pages to the overall experience. Every site has a goal—whether it’s encouraging a call, building trust, or helping someone understand a service—and my role is to help align that goal with how users think, scan, and make decisions online.
My work is grounded in WordPress best practices, but my approach is collaborative and consultative. I help clients make thoughtful choices about structure, content, and design, especially when sites have grown complicated over time or no longer reflect the business behind them.
The end result is a website that feels clear, intentional, and human—one that supports your goals while respecting your visitors’ time and attention.
What It’s Like to Work Together
My clients value a thoughtful, steady approach—one that brings clarity to complex websites and creates a sense of trust throughout the process. I prioritize clear communication, careful listening, and well-reasoned recommendations, so projects move forward with confidence and purpose. The result is not only a well-designed site, but a process that feels considered, transparent, and collaborative from start to finish.

In the WP Community
WordPress Meetup SWFL Co-organizer
I have been a Co-Organizer of our local Meetup Since July 2016. I started out along with our long-time Co-Organizer, and my friend, Birgit Pauli-Haack.

We hold some awesome presentations on the entire gamut of topics about WordPress both for developers and other users. This year we welcomed two new Co-Organizers; Anne Katzeff, and Guy Cicinelli.
I host a bi-weekly Meetup called Coffee Klatch where I teach other business owners, developers, and WordPress users alike. We have great discussions and everyone learns a lot.
We Met Matt Mullenweg!

In 2018, Birgit, I, and another fellow organizer went to St. Petersburg FL to attend a Meetup featuring Matt Mullenweg, the Founding Developer of WordPress and the company behind it, Automatic.
Celebrated 15 years of WordPress

I organized a celebration at Fort Myers Beach for any member that wished to attend. Chris Wiegman, Anja Carlson, Birgit Pauli-Hack, Dan Flavin. Rosalind, and Joy Weigman were all in attendance.
Member of Southwest Florida Coders
I attend this group’s meetings from time to time as well. They too have interesting presentations and help sessions for coders. We have a great community of developers in Southwest Florida.
Let’s Talk
If you’re looking for a thoughtful partner to help bring clarity to your website—or simply want to talk through what’s working and what isn’t—I’d be happy to connect. A conversation is often the best place to start, whether you’re planning a redesign or just need a clearer path forward.
